All About AR-03, and Why We’re Winning in November
Arkansas’s Third District is the nation’s best kept secret. If you’re lucky enough to call our foothills home, you know it firsthand. Between dozens of miles of trails through our dense forests and green pastures, our beloved colleges and universities, a world-renowned art museum, and three Fortune 500 companies, there’s a lot of adventure and opportunity here. For several years running, Fayetteville, the hometown of Arknasas’s flagship university, has been crowned one of the 10 best places to live in the United States.
Slowly but surely, the rest of the country seems to be catching on. Every month, we welcome nearly 1,000 new neighbors to our dynamic and growing region. My family and I relocated to Bella Vista nearly two decades ago. In that time, we’ve borne witness to the breakneck pace of change Northwest Arkansans are used to. And yet, despite the never-ending construction, we hold true to who we are as a community. Our small-town spirit endures. We’re never shy to offer a cup of sugar, run a leg of carpool, or deliver a home cooked meal. We take care of our own in District Three. I’m excited to give back as your next Congresswoman.
For all that Arkansas has to be proud of (it’s a lot, to be sure,) work still remains. Twenty years experience in nursing has given me a front-row seat to our broken healthcare system. My clinic is a microcosm of Arkansas’s Third District — a place where some are doing really well, but too many are not. Wealth inequality in our backyard is mind-boggling — Northwest Arkansas is among the 10 most unequal metro areas in the country.
I’ve been listening to the struggles, the victories, and the hopes of our neighbors for decades. This much remains true: Arkansans are eager for change. In 2018, that eagerness flipped two assembly seats held by influential Republican incumbents. While it’s true that I’m running for a seat that hasn’t been held by a Democrat since before I was born, no one cares about Arkansas like Arkansans, and the voters of District Three have proven they are willing to work for the change they want to see.
Our grassroots supporters have already made over 36 thousand phone calls to voters, texting thousands more. Adapting to the challenges of COVID-19, we’ve hosted 14 virtual town halls and live events since March. My opponent, Steve Womack, has only held one.
The generosity of our supporters led us to outraise Womack by double last quarter. We’re all the more energized by recent polling that shows Biden and Trump in a statistical tie in Arkansas — there’s hardly been a better time to be a Democrat working to Flip the Third.
Our hard work and winning message have succeeded in turning heads beyond the Third District, too. We’re honored to have received many national endorsements, including recognition from the Warren Democrats, End Citizens United, and Patriotic Millionaires (to name a few.)
My campaign is largely one of expanding opportunities- I’m fighting for a world where no one goes broke because they get sick, where we have a world class education system for all our children, and where workers are paid a fair wage. Arkansas is home for me and my family. As your Congresswoman, I’ll govern as a person who’s lived a life like yours, because I have. I hope you’ll join me in our fight.
